Visa Information & Application

Important Notice:
1. A visa to enter into Thailand is considered by Thai authorities as a privilege extended to that particular applicant, not a right nor a commodity. The visa may be refused or cancelled by officers in charge.
When applying for visas from the Thai Embassy, it is advisable to be courteous and cooperative, failure to do so may result in delay or refusal to process your application.

2. Norwegian citizens can stay in Thailand as tourists for up to 30 days without visa.

Application for visa

Requirements: You may apply for a visa by yourself at the Royal Thai Embassy or by post. The required documents are:
- Your original passport ( must be valid at least six months from the day you plan to enter Thailand)
- A photocopy of your passport (first page with picture plus any endorsement)
- One filled out application form per person.
- Two passport size photographs per person
- A copy of your confirmed ticket or booking
- Fee for the visa type you apply for.

When applying by post please include documents specified above and a stamped, envelope with your name and address written on it (to return your passport in)

Latvian citizens should contact international courier companies for postages and handling of the documents.

Visa Validity: Your visa is valid for 90 days. This means your entry/entries into Thailand must be within 90 days of the issue date of the visa, as written on your visa stamp.

Validity of Stay: Your lenght of stay has nothing to do with the validity of the visa, as mentioned above. Your visa is issued with a lenght of stay of 30, 60, 90 or other number of days. This is the number of days you may stay in Thailand without renewing your visa, counted from the day of entry into Thailand.
The processing time for normal visa application is between 3-5 working days if you apply in person.
The processing time for applications by post is between 5-10 working days. (not counting weekends)

Types of Visa and Application Fees

 Transit Visa

Issued for 30 days with no extension. Applicant is not permitted to engage in any occupation or employment. A confirmed ticket for onward destination must be shown to the officer at the port of entry

Foreigners, who travel via Thailand to other destinations from the same port of entry, are allowed to transit without a visa. In this regard, the Thai Immigration Division is authorized to instruct the airlines or persons in charge of the transit to ensure that the transit passengers remain in a prescribed area. Should the transit passengers be forced for any reason to remain in the prescribed area for a period longer than expected, the Immigration Division may allow such passengers to do so under guarantees by the airlines or persons in charge of the transit.

Application fee : NOK 160 per entry per person

Tourist Visa

Issued for 60 days. Another 30 days may be granted by Immigration Division, Bangkok, Thailand. Applicant is not permitted to engage in any occupation or employment.

Application fee : NOK 200 per entry and person .

List of passport holders from Kingdom of Norway do not require a visa when entering Thailand for tourism purposes if their stay in the Kingdom does not exceed 30 days:


Internship/Voluntary work

Applicants that need a visa to do internship or volutary work should contact their Thai employer, who in turn should seek visa support from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok. Only once this support is received by the eEmbassy in Oslo can a visa be issued.

Non-Immigrant Visa

Issued for 90 days. Applicants should be over 50 years of age and have income/pension of at least NOK 15,000 per month. Applicant should also state their purpose of visit to Thailand.
Application fee :
Single entry NOK 400

Non-Immigrant Visa over 90 days
The issuance of this visa must obtain a prior approval from the Immigration Division in Thailand. The applicant is required to submit the name and address of his/her guarantor or reference in Thailand who will be responsible for the applicant during his/her stay in Thailand. In this respect, a health certificate, criminal record, bank/ financial statements, and other documents certifying title, function, qualifications, purpose and duration of stay in Thailand are also required. The guarantor or sponsoring firms or organizations in Thailand may also apply such visa directly to the Immigration Division in Bangkok on behalf of the applicant.

Immigrant Visa

This category is granted only by the Ministry of Interior, Bangkok, Thailand through the Thai Diplomatic Missions or Consulates-General abroad to foreigners who wish to seek permanent residence in Thailand. In this respect the application needs prior approval by the Immigration Division of Thailand. The quota for nationals of each country is of 200 persons per annum. In order to obtain the visa, one must apply within the first 6 months of the year, stating the name and address of a guarantor during the applicant's stay in the country. A health certificate, a criminal record, bank/financial statements must also be submitted with the application.
